Page two from Steve Morgan 1957-1958
I'm at my desk in operations. Despite the fact that the "Top Secret" file drawer behind me was open, I was promoted to A/2C shortly after. This was the end of May 1958.

I'm wearing that wonderful parka--too bad we couldn't keep them when we left the Alaskan Command. I kept our cap, even though apparently it didn't fit.

One of our favorite hangouts--the PX. Left to right==Steve Morgan, another good guy, and Jim Stratton (back to camera) Tom White is pictured in the right foreground. At that moment, I think we were plotting our "escape" from the island!. During 1957-1958, the juke box was in the PX, and some of the favorites played that I recall were Patti Page's "Old Cape Cod", Marty Robbin's "White Sportcoat, The Champs "Tequila", and--oh yes--a couple of records by that new sensation-Johnny Mathis!.

2/Lt Ed Jutzi (left) and 2/Lt. Frank Slater, ops intercept officers. No doubt they were discussing the cuisine at the new Italian restaurant on the island. Ed was a very sharp young (weren't we?) officer who became famous for his "discussions" with our ops officer, Capt. E.F. Seng. Photo taken in the summer of 1958

And finally, our "last hurrah". This was the NCO Club on one of those special nights, that once-a-month event when "short timers" gathered in the club to hear their new assignments over AFRS. This was one such night in September 1958 when some of us recieved our orders to "get outta there"! This was like a farewell party- I think we were treated to free drinks. Among the many faces in the crowd, standing behind the bar are some of the men that I recall; Larry Miller (5th from left); Robert Terrill (6th from left); Steve Morgan (7th from left); and, our hero, Motes (8th from left).  In the foreground, with his hand over his face, was our new F/Sgt and/or medic (don't recall his name). A month later I was on my way to Los Angeles, and a 30 day leave, but in a sense, I feel that I've never left Middleton Island, due to the memories I have, and Armand's and others significant contributions that helped me remember that year 1957-1958........Thanks, Steve Morgan
Check out the Middleton jackets of Steve's at the Middleton Museum!.......Armand
