" This is the 720th  basketball team at practice for the big tournament in Fairbanks. We played two games in the tournament and lost both games. I can't remember who we played in the first game, but we played the University of Alaska in the second. They beat us by a small margin. I think we played one of the big Air Force bases in the first. They didn't beat us by much either. Ambrose (Mike) Lyons (second from right ) broke the field house scoring record for a single player. however, someone from the other team outscored him and set the record. We made such a good showing in this tournament we were invited to Anchorage in February to play in the Alaska Air Command (tournament) . The winner of this tournament would represent the AAC in the All Air Force tournament. We set up shop in the motor pool. The backboard was made of plywood. I don't know where the goal came from. I am fourth from the right in the above photo......" J.A.
"Another photo of the 720th basketball team taking time out from a hard practice for a team photo. I can't remember all their names , but I will give it a try. Kneeling from left:  ?, Robert Cottman, Bob McCoy team Captain and my roommate, Harry Cooley, Me and Don Lane. Standing from left:  ? , Bert Cone , Mike Lyons, ? , Francis Langan, ?, Richard Buechler. As you can see the motor pool as a facility for playing basketball wasn't much, however, it was all we had, i.e., this or nothing. If a person ran too far under the backboard, when making a lay-up, he would run into a D6 Caterpillar.".......J.A.
